ok, i'm not back on yet, but i have a question. honestly, how can anyone consider bands like suppression and all those other growling death _meta_l, errr crust bands (or is it grind core, whatever) punk bands?? no joke, i don't get it. sounds like heavy _meta_L to me. is it just cause they suck so bad that the audience is about as big as the punk audience, or is it that the names are so damn cool that putting patches on yr coat matches the rest of yr punk patches... let me in on the secret, i don't get it. i kept hearing good things about capatalist casualties (or was it masskontrol, i can't remember... or both?) and then heard them on the pigs suck 7 x2 and imagine my suprise at hearing death _meta_l. wow! thought i, i must have gotten a fucked up pressing, this can't be punk!! but alas, it was soooo they were as bad as they appeared... ok... enlighten me. why is growling and being all around pathetic (w/ a cool name of course..) punk rock??? mohr

Get used to it; its pretty much here to stay, wether you like it or not. Tons of bands sound '_meta_l' and the _style_ of some punk and HC have been incorporating that for years now. After the 80's HC-thrash split up, things kinda went back towards each other. the pigs suck comp., isn't that on Clean Plate records?! Birmingham representin'! cam

I heard a double 10 with the aforementioned bands expecting the same thing, some cool punk. Crusty yes, death _meta_l no. And that's what it is. People bitch about hardcore bands being all _meta_l now but I'd rather listen to that than death _meta_l, a genre I've never been able to get into. I'm gonna go see Man is the Bastard in a couple weeks just for the experience, but I think I'll be sorry I took the road trip. Joanie

Does everyones brain work by categorizing everything they percieve inot great big generic collumns? Mine doesn't. I think Suppression is just as punk as say the Subhumans. But then again some would say the Subhumans aren't punk cause they don't look it. I always thought that punk was doing something different and trying to change a stagnant system. Individual taste may lead one to not like Suppression or bands like them that are unbelievably fast. I happen to love fast bands (HEIST!!!!!) Ponder the evolution of punk. Conflict and Icons of Filth are pretty punk sounding by most standards. These are the bands that began the development of faster and grinier sounding stuff. Discharge has brought about the birth of several hundred Dis-Bands that have a sound some might call Deathy . Icons of Filth and Discharge were the primary influences of Napalm Death who were truly the first Grindcore band. English pre-grind and chrust like Deviated Instinct and Sore Throat lead into more modern death _meta_lly stuff. It's all evolution. To still sound like '82 _style_ punk in 1996 is definitively stagnant. Time for some change. Change for the faster, noisier, chrustier, _meta_llio rehash old (and bad for that matter) Chaotic Discord and Disorder riffs should be terminated in infancy (props for whoever gets the referance). Grow up already, I love punk too, but there are bands who still make it fresh and new sounding, like Civil Disobediance and Dead Silence. Do something new and differant. Have some guts. That's what punk is, new and differant. Thank you. Good Night.

If you consider grind, crust or whatever you want to call it progressing and differant (sic), that's fine. But that doesn't mean I/we have to like it. I like Discharge, I like Civil Disobedience, I just cannot stand real death _meta_l vocals and don't get what the attraction is. I guess I don't have any guts. Joanie
