This weekend they put most of the show towards promoing the Headbangers Ball tour that is starting stateside pretty soon.   They had the members of Shadow's Fall, Killswitch Engage, and Lamb of God on the show for interviews, and played a few video's from each band. The other videos they played were mostly underground bands like Nile, and well, I can't really remember the other bands, but no old bands like _meta_llica, Dio, Maiden, JP or anything. No it was a full underground _meta_l show.   Nile didn't sound bad, but I don't much like the death _style_ vocals they used. Impossible to understand.   Yeah, and I just saw something to the effect that Cannible Corpse celebrated selling their 1,000,000 copy of their combined albums. I don't know if that is worldwide or US only. Still 1,000,000 sold is a lot for such an extreme band. Tom

I think they`ve made 8 or so so that averages out at just over 100,000 each. Still pretty good for a band that sounds that extreme. Nile are easily the best death _meta_l band around at the moment although I agree the vocals take some getting used to. Their albums normally take alot of listens to really sink in and I certainly have to be in the right mood. There`s so much going on in a Nile song, it can be difficult listening at first. Another extreme _meta_l band I`m loving at the moment are Akercocke from London. They`ve just released their 3rd album ( Chronozon ) and it`s immense. I predict they`ll break through with this, they could be huge ( in the underground ). Sort of a cross between early death _meta_l, black _meta_l mixed up with a bit of thrash and goth (!). Singing alternates all over the place, from Suffocation type barking, COF screaming to clean vocals. Highly recommended by yours truly! -Ian-

There`s so much going on in a Nile song, it can be difficult listening at first.   I think after hearing a good number of death bands/extreme _meta_l bands, the music isn't really the problem. I just don't like their singing-Growling. As it is, I have heard one of their CD's end to end, and this video. I don't see them being as extremely busy.   I found myself a lot more impressed with the Children of Bodom song on the ID-8 CD. Anywhere near the talents on display in a band like Opeth? I don't think so. Maybe it's something I'd have to put several listens into to see if I can get past the vocal work. Maybe Nile won't ever be for me.   What do you think of Nightrage? I like NIghtrage, bought their album a couple of months back. It slipped off my playlist fairly quickly though, wouldn`t say it was a great album or anything. Nile do get better with time although for some I can appreciate the vocals being too much. I`m no musician to say who is more talented - certainly the guys in Opeth and COB play some killer solos but I think the tempo changes and riffing in Nile take some beating. -Ian-

However, I got to hear the song a couple more times today. A friend I work with had a 2 CD sampler on which Nile had that song. Musically that song didn't seem so fast, not with the second CD being grindcore-death-extreme stuff end to end.   Actually the song sounded pretty basic to me. Like you said, and I second, I'm not a musician, but I know what I like, and I know a lot of extreme _style_s of _meta_l (Thanks to the ID-series and some recent purchases.). Not only was that Nile song sort of basic sounding, it doesn't have a solo. Hardly even a short run or anything. So I sort of think, what's the hype with this band? I just don't see it. Maybe I will have to hear them more times, and whole albums.   Oh, that sampler, it was from Relaspe Records. Something like Contaminated #5. I can't remember many of the band names, and it's 18 songs on one CD and 27 on the second one. So there's a lot of stuff on it. It runs about $8 US. Tom

Especially on death _meta_l where there`s no chorus to hang onto. However Nile songs are usually very complex with loads of time changes and there are normally solos. They do work better as a complete album listen. -Ian-
